After a long drive from Minneapolis to Seattle in the 15 passenger van (named Hippie Van) and trailer, we finally arrived to our host church here in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon. Although the scenery was gorgeous along the way, I'm thankful to be able to get up and move around. 24 hours spanning across 2 1/2 days is a long time in a car (and the views are better from a bike seat anyway!).
Thursday the team arrived in Seattle, and we're slowly settling into the tour life routine. This weekend consists mostly of training sessions including bike safety, maintenance, and learning how to more effectively communicate the cause and why we're biking. It's been really fun to watch people get to know one another. After talking to people via Facebook and Google Hangout for months, we're finally all here!
I wanted to tell you all a little about the team this year. There are 16 of us total: 3 leaders, 13 participants (11 girls, 5 guys) spanning in ages from 18 to early 60s. Although we're still in the first week, the dynamics that each person brings to the team are awesome. Everyone has a different story of how and why they're doing this tour, and all are equally as touching and inspiring.
I'm requesting prayer for patience, peace, and strength as I'm learning to live in community with new friends. Although this is my favorite aspect of tour, it's also the hardest. Also pray that team bonding will be a fun and encouraging experience for all involved, and that we would begin the formation of friendships that will strengthen over the course of the summer.
Here are a few pictures from the last few days. Enjoy!
Blessings,
Sara
